«For an organic development of the urban area between Catanzaro and Lamezia Terme it would be interesting to think of a supra-municipal urban planning tool shared between the two cities and the municipalities that exist in the territory crossed by the state road “dei due mari”». This was stated by the vice president of the Calabria Region Philip Peter Paulwho participated in the meeting organized by the Movement for the relaunch of the perspective of the Catanzaro – Lamezia Terme Urban Area. «A movement that I gladly joined – explains Pietropaolo – because I consider it a very important initiative, which perhaps expresses the only real project capable of a long-term perspective for the central area of Calabria. It follows the vision that had led, with the first Abramo administration, to the design of the Prusst “metropolitan area of the Two Seas”, which included interventions already completed, such as those in the business area of the Corace valley, and others of strategic importance that still need to be built, such as the pendulum and a modern railway connection between the Ionian and Tyrrhenian lines, which also reaches the airport». According to Pietropaolo «this part of the territory is in fact already uniting without political intervention, for example with the establishment of numerous companies in the PIP areas. But politics must be able to guide these processes, insert them into an overall vision of urban development, and provide the area with important infrastructures starting from the already planned strengthening of the Catanzaro-Lamezia railway line, in addition to the strengthening of those already existing such as the railway stations that need to be modernized and the airport that with the investments made by the Region is becoming much more attractive. For this project to be realized, the involvement of all the municipalities in the area is obviously needed, but above all the push of the mayors of the two cities, who are able to overcome, also through cultural initiatives, the useless and harmful parochial positions that still, unfortunately, seem to persist in a part of the citizenry”.
