The territorial control activity by the Carabinieri of the Scalea Company is incessant throughout the upper Tyrrhenian Sea of Cosenza. Targeted activities have been prepared by the competent Carabinieri Stations and the Operational and Radiomobile Unit aimed at combating crimes in general and in particular illicit drug trafficking with the constant coordination of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Paola. This is a crime that is constantly prosecuted by the Carabinieri of the Scalea Company as demonstrated by the significant operational results both in terms of number of arrests, referrals in a state of freedom and reports to the Prefecture for personal use of drugs and both in terms of the significant quantities of drugs different types subjected to seizure.
The latest judicial police operation was conducted by the Belvedere Marittimo Carabinieri station in the late morning of October 10th: a 41-year-old from Diamante was arrested flagrantly for cultivation and possession for the purpose of trafficking of narcotic substances.
The military, during a normal road traffic check carried out in Belvedere Marittimo, subjected the man to a personal and vehicular search and, on the occasion, ascertained that 0.2 grams of marijuana were present in the glove compartment of the car in which he was travelling. .
Since the man presented a suspicious attitude, the search was also extended to his home in Diamante. The intuition of the Carabinieri was decisive: once they arrived at the house they found a total of approximately 104 grams of marijuana and two greenhouses, one next to the other, equipped with artificial lighting and a thermostat in which they were growing 11 Indian hemp plants varying in height from 20 to 115 cm. All the materials and narcotic substances were seized as well as cash, probably the proceeds of the illicit drug dealing activity.
The narcotic substance will be subjected to technical checks by the Narcotic Substance Analysis Laboratory of the Carabinieri of Vibo Valentia.
At the end of the activities, the arrested person was subjected to house arrest at the disposal of the Judicial Authority.
Furthermore, last week the Carabinieri of the Scalea station and of the Norm of the Scalea Company arrested a 22-year-old local man in a state of freedom for similar crimes, as, in his home, he was found in possession of 2 grams of hashish, 15 grams of marijuana, 5 Indian hemp plants approximately 50 cm high and a precision balance.
