The trial of Antonio Davoli, defended by lawyers Salvatore Staiano and Renzo Andricciola), accused of being the perpetrator of the double murder which occurred in Lamezia on 29 September 2000, in which Giovanni Torcasio and Cristian Materasso lost their lives, was held today before the Court of Assizes of Appeal of Catanzaro.
The accused had been acquitted at first instance with a trial held according to the ordinary rite; The Prosecutor’s Office had appealed against the acquittal sentence, requesting the reopening of the investigation.
The Court of Assizes has ordered to hear the collaborator Angelo Torcasio again to confirm the declarations of the other collaborator, Gennaro Pulice. Today Angelo Torcasio subjected himself to questions from the prosecutor, the defenders and the Court. The hearing was postponed to September 22 for arguments and sentencing. For the same crime, the co-defendant Pietro Iannazzo was sentenced to 30 years with an abbreviated sentence.
