An intense joint operation between the State Police and the Guardia di Finanza led to the Stop of six alleged smugglers, accused of aiding and abetting illegal immigration in relation to the landings that occurred between 6 and 10 June in Roccella Jonica. The boats, which started from the coasts of Libya and Turkey, transported migrants from numerous countries, including Bangladesh, Egypt, Syria, Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran.
The investigative activity, carried out by the Siderno Commissariat and the Naval Operations Section of the Yellow Flames, under the coordination of the Locri Prosecutor’s Office, allowed – also thanks to direct testimonies and the intervention of interpreters – to reconstruct the phases of the crossing and to identify the alleged managers, some of whom had provided false general information.
The six subjects stopped – of different nationalities – are held responsible for managing boats and recruitment of migrants. The investigations are still in progress and criminal proceedings are found in the preliminary phase: for all the principle of non -guilt is worth up to any definitive sentence
