An investment of 30 million euros to transform the Giammoro pier into a strategic hub of logistics in the heart of the Mediterranean. This is the project announced by the Mediterranean Dufeco Terminal, welcomed by the union acronyms Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl and Uil Trasporti, who speak of “a new era for employment, development and infrastructure in the Messina”.
The announcement came during a meeting between the group’s leaders and the trade union representatives Giammarco Sposito, Giancarlo Crupi, Lillo D’Amico, Antonino Di Mento and Claudio feminò, during a visit to the new plants of the pier. The objective of the investment is clear: to enhance existing infrastructures, making the pier – created by the Port Authority of the Strait – a point of reference for naval traffic and international commercial routes.
The project aims to build a real sea chain around the portcapable of generating direct and indirect work in sectors such as goods handling, integrated logistics and port services. It is a concrete opportunity to relaunch the industrial area of Giammoro, attract new investments and strengthen the competitiveness of the territory.
The unions express appreciation for the initiative but place the emphasis on a crucial aspect: “This path – they underline – must take place in full respect of the rights and dignity of work”. The secretariats hope for a constant dialogue between the company, institutions and workers to guarantee sustainable and inclusive development.
“We welcome this commitment of Dufco – conclude the trade union representatives – because it represents a bet on the future of the province of Messina. A modern infrastructure can become the engine of a new growth cycle, an opportunity to relaunch the local economy and create qualified employment”.
The investment of Dufeco Terminal Mediterraneo is thus candidate to become a virtuous model of collaboration between public and private, able to combine industrial development, employment protection and enhancement of the territory.
