– «We will cut excise duties this week, in a few days». The Minister of European Affairs and the Pnrr, Tommaso Foti, said this, confirming to Sky Tg24 the rumors about an extension of the cut expiring on 7 April.
The CDM scheduled for Friday at 10am
The next Council of Ministers, as far as we know, is scheduled for Friday at 10am. On that occasion, the decree law – on which the government is working – to extend the cut in excise duties on fuel, approved on 18 March and expiring on 7 April, should be examined.
Diesel at 2.10 euros in all regions
Further increases in fuel prices, with diesel prices at self-service outlets, despite the discount on excise duties, increasingly moving towards the psychological threshold of 2.1 euros per liter in all regions. This was stated by Codacons, which reworks the regional data published by Mimit, warning that we are preparing for an “Easter rush” with 23 euros more than last year for a full tank of diesel.
Today the average price of diesel, the association writes in a note, stands in Italy at around 2.079 euros per litre, with the highest prices recorded in Bolzano with 2.111 euros per litre, Friuli Venezia Giulia (2.098 euros/litre), Trento (2.094 euros/litre) and Calabria (2.089 euros/litre). Petrol today rises to 1.757 euros per litre, with the highest prices in Basilicata (1.782 euros per litre), while on the motorways self-service diesel is sold on average at 2.142 euros per litre, 1.821 euros/litre for green ones.
«Italians who travel by car during the holidays will have to prepare for the Easter rush – warns Codacons – Despite the cut in excise duties, and also as a consequence of the realignment of taxation between petrol and diesel decided by the government, diesel costs 29% more today compared to the Easter holidays of 2025, equal to an increase of 47 cents per litre, equivalent to a greater expense of +23.5 euros per full tank». Petrol, which benefited from the reorganization of excise duties, costs on average 2.4% more than at Easter 2025. «In light of these data, the extension of the excise duty cut appears to be an inevitable measure, considering that upon expiry of the tax discount and without interventions, diesel fuel at self-service outlets will immediately jump above 2.3 euros per litre, reaching 2.4 euros on the motorway» concludes Codacons.
