There are eight new suspects in the investigation into the murder of Maria Chindamo, the 44-year-old businesswoman from Laureana di Borrello (Reggio Calabria) who disappeared on 6 May 2016 in front of her farm in Limbadi (Vibo Valentia) and whose body was then fed to pigs and the remains destroyed with a tractor cutter.
The prosecutor of the DDA of Catanzaro Annamaria Frustaci sent a guarantee information to 8 people arranging and ordering new biological and dactyloscopic analyzes on finds seized during the investigations. The operations will start on 14 and 21 September in the RIS laboratories of Messina.
The suspects – who also include some relatives of the victim’s husband, who committed suicide in 2015 – are Giovanni Capone, Vincenzo and Francesco Arceri, Tommaso and Antonino Biondo, the Bulgarian Sasho Emilov Dimitrov, Davide Errigo and the Romanian Laurenthiu Georghe Nicolae.
They are under investigation, for various reasons, for murder aggravated by premeditation and the mafia method and destruction and concealment of a corpse. The trial of Salvatore Ascone, 60 years old, is currently underway in Catanzaro, accused of having collaborated in the planning, organization and execution of the murder in collaboration with Maria Chindamo’s former father-in-law, Vincenzo Punturiero, who is deceased, who allegedly commissioned the crime because he attributed his son’s suicide to the separation he had from the woman. Ascone would have participated, according to the accusation, having an interest, on his own and as a representative of the Mancuso gang, in acquiring land belonging to the entrepreneur.
Among the finds at the center of the new tests are an agricultural cutter with traces of blood on the blade, a Mitsubishi Pajero with bloodstains on the seats, a pair of sports shoes found in the victim’s rural home, two cigarette butts already attributed to Dimitrov’s DNA. Also seized were the woman’s Dacia Duster, a broken leather belt found during the 2016 excavations and a Fiat Cinquecento seized last December.
The Catanzaro magistrate ordered new biological and dactyloscopic analyzes on artefacts seized during the investigations. The operations will start on 14 and 21 September in the RIS laboratories of Messina.
The disputed facts date back to 6 May 2016, when Maria Chindamo disappeared from Limbadi, in the province of Vibo Valentia. Since then his body has never been found and the case, which over the years has had wide media coverage also due to the determination of the family in the search for truth and justice, remains officially open as an ‘Ndrangheta investigation linked to the Mancuso gang.
Several suspects are assisted by trusted defenders who will have to appoint their own experts for the technical investigations: Giovanni Capone by the lawyer Francesco Collia; Vincenzo and Francesco Arceri by the lawyer Giovanni Montalto, Antonino Biondo by the lawyer Antonino Biondo.
A public defender has been appointed for other suspects: the lawyer Francesca De Fine assists Tommaso Biondo, Sasho Emilov Dimitrov and Davide Errigo, while the lawyer Felice Foresta represents Nicolae Laurenthiu Georghe.
