The Environment Councilor of the Calabria Region, Antonio Montuoro, convened, today, in the headquarters of the regional Citadel in Catanzaro, a meeting with the mayors of the Municipalities benefiting from the public notice dedicated to the restoration, recovery and environmental redevelopment of degraded areas for the signing and delivery of the agreements.

During the meeting, councilor Montuoro opened the proceedings by underlining the strategic importance of interventions for the protection of the territory and the improvement of environmental quality.

“The initiative – explained Montuoro – is part of a broader regional program which makes over 6 million euros available to support environmental restoration, recovery and redevelopment interventions, with particular attention to public spaces compromised by phenomena of waste abandonment. These resources – he underlined – coming from environmental sanctions, return to the benefit of citizens, with a view to circularity of administrative action and represent a concrete signal of attention towards the territories and allow municipalities to intervene effectively to restore decorum and safety to public spaces, contrasting widespread phenomena of environmental degradation”.

Overall, 32 Calabrian municipalities have received funding

The tender is divided into two main lines of intervention: on the one hand, the environmental restoration of state-owned areas along the waterways affected by the presence of special waste, both dangerous and non-hazardous, with a budget of over 3 million and 950 thousand euros; on the other, the recovery and redevelopment of degraded public areas, through the removal of waste and the implementation of environmental redevelopment works, for an amount of 2 million and 200 thousand euros. The expected contributions, between 100 and 200 thousand euros for each project, cover expenses strictly connected to the works, reclamation operations and technical charges.

The general director of the department, Salvatore Siviglia, specified that 80% of the financing granted to the municipalities will be liquidated, in order to allow a rapid start and progress of the works, especially in view of the upcoming summer season and with particular reference to the coastal territories.

The meeting concluded with the delivery of the agreements to the beneficiary municipalities, in the presence of the regional sector manager, Elvira Costantino, and the person responsible for the procedure, Domenico Albano, demonstrating the operational commitment of the regional administration in concretely supporting the environmental regeneration processes in the territory.
