In light of the recent and ongoing escalation of episodes of violence that are affecting the territory of Corigliano-Rossano and in particular the seaside village of Schiavonea, the regional councilor for Social Policies and Welfare, Pasqualina Straface, has asked the provincial Commander of the Carabinieri of Cosenza, Colonel Andrea Mommo, to evaluate the activation of a fixed garrison of the force within the seaside village.
Security emergency and petty crime in the village
The initiative arises from the need to strengthen the presence of the State in an area which, in recent months, has been affected by repeated and growing phenomena of petty crime, robberies, assaults, drug trafficking and illegal occupations of properties, which are generating a climate of concern among citizens and economic operators.
“Security – declares councilor Straface – is an essential prerequisite for the protection of social rights and for the quality of life of communities. There cannot be integration, inclusion and social cohesion where control of the territory and legality are lacking”.
Applause for the police and the judiciary
The regional councilor also expresses appreciation for the work that both the Castrovillari Public Prosecutor’s Office and the police forces are already putting in place in the area. Last night’s arrests, which occurred a few hours after an attempted robbery, are clear evidence of this.
Towards a strengthening of territorial control
“It is necessary to recognize – he specifies – the constant commitment of the Carabinieri of the Territorial Department and the State Police of Corigliano-Rossano, who are operating with professionalism and dedication in a complex phase. We are aware, however, that the current contingency requires even greater attention: violent phenomena no longer appear occasional, but take on traits that require a leap in quality in presence and control”.
