Eurozone annual inflation rose to 3.3% in August, up from 2.9% in July. This is what Eurostat found in the first ‘flash’ estimate. The Italian figure, harmonized according to European criteria, is estimated at 2.9%. Highest values in Lithuania (5.8%), the estimate for Estonia is at its lowest (1.3%). Energy sees the highest rate (14.3%, compared to 10.3% in July), followed by services (3%), non-energy industrial goods (1.2%) and food, alcohol and tobacco (1.2%, stable compared to July).
The highest figure
The inflation rate recorded in August (3.3%) is the highest figure for almost three years. In fact, we need to go back to September 2023, ISTAT says, to have a higher trend rate of change than the preliminary estimate recorded in August 2026. In September 2023 inflation had reached 5.3%.
