“The recent checks, carried out as part of an ongoing intervention by the Reclamation Consortium, which led to the reporting of five people in Isola Capo Rizzuto for illegal connections and irregular withdrawals from the water network, represent yet another demonstration of how the fight against illegality involves coordinated, constant and structured action. In a particularly delicate period of the year, characterized by the peak in tourist presences and the consequent increase in water demand, guaranteeing equity in access to a primary good like water, it is not just a question of respecting the rules, but an act of protection towards the entire community and all citizens and economic operators who act in compliance with the law every day”.
This is what the Councilor for the Environment and Legality of the Calabria Region, Antonio Montuoro, declares regarding the operation conducted by the Carabinieri of the Crotone Provincial Command, under the direction and coordination of the Crotone Public Prosecutor’s Office led by the Prosecutor Domenico Guarascio, together with the technicians of the Reclamation Consortium, which made it possible to identify several illegal connections to the water network attributable to accommodation facilities, tourist villages and private individuals.
“I would like to underline that results like these are never the result of chance, but derive from the constant presence of institutions in the territory, from the incessant activity of the police forces and from a widespread presence in the most sensitive areas, accompanied by targeted checks and controls. The intense and constant control activity carried out throughout the entire territory, thanks to the synergy between Sorical, Arpacal, Calabria Verde and the Consorzio di Bonifica, is starting to bear fruit. A widespread and structured work, aimed at identifying and combating illegal activities and verifying any abusive connections, demonstrates how the constant presence in the area and collaboration between entities are fundamental tools to ensure compliance with the rules and protection of the environment. The Calabria Region has strongly believed in the construction of a system of permanent collaboration between entities and bodies responsible for the protection of legality, in the awareness that only through shared action can concrete and effective results be achieved”.
“Precisely the synergy developed in recent years thanks to the memoranda of understanding and the operational models shared with the police forces is making the difference, transforming institutional cooperation into an effective tool for preventing and combating crimes. It is the demonstration that when administrations, judicial authorities, police forces and managing bodies work in the same direction, it becomes possible to defend common goods with greater incisiveness and guarantee more efficient services to citizens”.
“I would like to extend heartfelt applause to the Carabinieri for their professionalism, determination and constant supervision of legality ensured daily in the area. An equally dutiful thanks goes to the Commissioner of the Land Reclamation Consortium, Giacomo Giovinazzo, to the technicians and to all the staff involved for the work carried out with competence, commitment and spirit of service, even during the summer period. The operation confirms that legality is built in the field, through a continuous presence and loyal collaboration between institutions, producing tangible results to protect public resources and the collective interest”.
