Expo Arte Messina 2024: meeting with Elena Di Capita, the first Italian artist to deal with Gyotaku

The first part of Expo Arte Messina 2024a widespread exhibition with the artistic direction of Gianfranco Pistoriocontinues on Friday 11 October, at 9.00 pm, at the Rectorate with the Fikissimi show; Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th October, at the Salone degli Specchi in Palazzo dei Leoni, meeting with Elena Di Capita, the first Italian to use the Gyotaku technique.

Elena Di Capita and Adriana Profeta, researcher at the Institute for Biological Resources and Marine Biotechnologies of the National Research Council, will hold a meeting entitled Gyotaku and Science: how art becomes a tool of knowledge. «Gyotaku – explains Elena Di Capita – is an ancient Japanese printing technique used by fishermen to document their catch: type, size; over time it has become a very complex art form to create.” «We will talk – adds Adriana Profeta – about what Gyotaku in its current state can represent: a contact between art and science. We will do it from a scientific point of view and Elena from an artistic and conceptual point of view.”
During the day, Wunderkammer – The Chamber of Wonders will also be presented, a project curated by Simone Cappello, researcher at CNR – IRBIM, and Raffaele Patania, in which Gyotaku and other research material will be exhibited.
Furthermore, on Sunday 13 October, from 5pm to 8pm, Elena Di Capita will lead a workshop dedicated to Goyataku at the Salone degli Specchi. To participate you can contact the number 349 5883269.

from 5.00 pm, at the Salone degli Specchi: seminars organized by Simone Cappello, IRBIM-CNR Researcher and Raffaele Patania, anatomical designer “The Chamber of Wonders – nature in a room”; Adriana Profeta, IRBIM-CNR Researcher / Elena Di Capita, artist “Gyotaku and Science: how art becomes a tool of knowledge”; exhibition of the finds from the newly created Wunderkammer – Proto Naturalistic Museum F. Longo” of Messina, with speakers Salvatore Giacobbe and Michela D’Angelo of the University of Messina on “Jeanne Villepreux Power between art and science”; from 5.00pm to 8.00pm: Gyotaku technique artistic workshop curated by Elena Di Capita;

Until Saturday 12 October, from 09.00 to 12.00, at the Dogana it is possible to visit Chasing freedom, an installation curated by the Order of Architects in collaboration with the Culture Commission of Engineers, with the works of Antonello Bonanno Conti;

Until Sunday 13 October, from 09.30 to 13.00 and from 18.00 to 24.00, at the Chamber of Commerce it is possible to visit Artifices qui facit usus adest.
