Carmine Antonio Timpa, a 75-year-old from Isola Capo Rizzuto who ended up in handcuffs on Monday as part of the “Black Flower” investigation by the Catanzaro DDA, which hypothesizes the control of the Arena gang over the “Seleno-Margheritissima” tourist village, has gone from prison to house arrest. This is what the investigating judge of the Court of Catanzaro, Fabiana Giacchetti, decided today. Which – accepting the request of the suspect’s defenders, the lawyers Luigi Villirilli and Gregorio Viscomi – ordered the application of a less distressing precautionary measure for Timpa due to his health conditions. The 75-year-old was arrested by the Crotone carabinieri together with Pasquale Arena (34 years old), Giuseppe Bruno (56), Domenico Muraca (74), Michele Nicoscia (45), Rosario Scerbo (57) and Vincenzo Scerbo (62). Timpa, who during the interrogation before the investigating judge made use of the right not to answer, is accused of attempted and completed extortion and damage, crimes aggravated by the purpose and method of the mafia. According to the anti-mafia prosecutor’s office, the man, as a partner of the bankrupt “IGB Immobiliare”, the company that built the “Margheritissima”, would have tried and, in some cases, carried out the strategy of discouraging the legitimate winners of the judicial auctions, in order to buy back the houses through frontmen. At the same time, Timpa must answer for the fire, which occurred in 2021, in the car of the buyer of an apartment in the village, who was apparently reluctant to sell the property taken at auction.
