The Carabinieri of Taormina arrested a 47 -year -old man, already known to the police and believed to be an exponent of the “Brunetto clan”, active in the territories of Giarre, Fiumefreddo and neighboring areas. The suspect is accused of extortion aggravated by the mafia method.
The arrest is the result of an investigative activity conducted by the Taormina carabinieri, coordinated by the DDA of Messina. The investigations, supported by technical activities, have made it possible to reconstruct the dynamics of the facts and to collect serious clues regarding the author. The suspect would have exploited his notorious and judicially ascertained belonging to a mafia organization operating in the territory of Giarre, a circumstance well known by the victim.
The disputed facts date back to June 2024. The man would have forced a local entrepreneur to accept the exchange between his car and a superior segment vehicle, owned by the investigating, refusing to pay the considerable difference in value. The measure was carried out at the Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto prison (ME), where the man was already detained for other reasons.
