Acute, eccentric, irreverent. The work and personality of Erik Satie, on the centenary of death, are the body and inspiration of “Extravadant Satie”, a choreographic concert that debuted on Sunday 23 February at the Ducal Castle of Corigliano Rossano as part of the second edition of the review “Dance Meet “, Sponsored and supported by the Municipal Administration and curated by the Cosenza Talg Cultural Association. Some of the most significant songs of the musical production of the French composer and pianist, the protagonist of the Parisian artistic environment between the end of the 19th century and the early 1900s, were performed on the piano by Maestro Ida Zicari, on whose notes they danced Vincenzo Nilo Stellato, Gabriella Sarubbo, Danilo Calabrese, Maria Pizzo and Daniela Morrone, following the choreography of Michele Ferraro, inspired by the indications that the same Satie left between the pentagrammates as interpretative traces. The repeated sounds of the “vexation” welcomed the public in the decorated mirror hall. Satie (starry) and her alter ego chimpanzé (Sarubbo) danced on the music of the seven dances of “La Piège de Méduse”, while everything stopped at the sound of the first of the three “Gymnopédies”, in which the author is alone with himself and his obsessions. Static paintings and images alternate with the flowing rhythm of music and dance in an original and visionary artistic path. The satire emerges in the “Sonatine Bureucratique”, where the bureaucrat employee (Calabrian) dreams of the beloved (lace) and the promotion, while humor is expressed in the parodic composition of the “Embryons Desséés”. The frivolity of society is reflected in the first “gnossienne”, while the gloomy shadow of the imminent war, played by an intense morrone, dominates the album of the “Sports & diversissements”, denunciation of the elegant Paris of the time, soon overwhelmed by the first World War. The concert ends on the notes of the third “gnossienne”, with the scene dominated by those black umbrellas of which Satie was morbid collector. The show will reply on March 19 in the auditorium of the “A. Casella” de L’Aquila Conservatory.
