Serious road accident with injuries this night on the A18 Messina-Catania motorway. Around 3.30 am, an articulated lorry traveling in the direction of Messina lost control at km 41, near the Giardini Naxos exit, and skipped across the lane, ending up overturning onto the opposite one in the direction of Catania where a car, a Fiat 500, was passing at the time, which was hit and overturned on its side.

The drivers of both vehicles were injured in the impact and were rescued by 118 ambulances and taken to hospital. The Fire Brigade of the Letojanni Detachment, the Traffic Police of the Giardini Naxos Subsection and the CAS staff were on site.
The Messina-Catania motorway was closed with mandatory exit at the Taormina junction for vehicles traveling towards Catania, diverted onto State Road 114 (the scene of another accident in the meantime, this time fatal), awaiting the removal of the vehicles involved.
