Fire brigade teams from the Cosenza Command have been busy since the early hours of the afternoon in the municipality of Villapiana due to a vast vegetation fire.
The fire affected the Mediterranean scrub and part of the pine forest in the marine area of the municipality. The fire fueled by the strong wind threatened two tourist villages for which about 15 families were asked to leave their homes as a precaution mainly due to the thick smoke which caused inconvenience.
Several ambulances, carabinieri, police and municipal police officers were on site, but no injuries have been reported at the moment. The intervention of the firefighters was used to contain the fire, avoiding the spread of the flames to the houses. Intervention still in progress.
