Due to a fire that is affecting the slope and the presence of smoke inside the Montevetrano 2 tunnel, along the A2 ‘Mediterranean Motorway’ at km 17,000, it was temporarily closed the southbound section between the Pontecagnano Nord and Salerno Fratte junctions in San Cipriano Picentino, in the province of Salerno.

At the moment, for vehicles heading south, the Salerno Fratte exit is recommended, returning to the Pontecagnano Nord junction.

On site are the Fire Brigade vehicles, the Police Force and the Anas Teams to manage the traffic and to allow the reopening of the roadway safely in the shortest time possible.

Another large fire broke out between the San Mango Piemonte and Pontecagnano Faiano junctions. The flames are devouring a hill that is located right above the highway tunnels. The main problems were caused by the smoke that, sucked into the tunnels, severely reduced visibility in both directions. Several drivers, in a panic, got out of their cars and tried to reach the exit on foot. The situation that the Eboli Highway Patrol officers found themselves facing was extremely difficult and, to allow for the extinguishing and safety operations, they adopted a temporary closure measure. However, the situation is gradually improving.
returning to normality.
