The story of Giovanni Macrì comes at the end of a proceeding initiated by the Ministry of the Interior after the dissolution of the municipal council, in 2024, due to mafia infiltration. And the Board, in the over 40 pages of decree with which it declared Macrì’s ineligibility for candidacy, reconstructs the territorial framework in which the matter fits (therefore in reference to the years preceding the dissolution of 2024): a coastal municipality with a strong tourist vocation, characterized by an economy linked to construction and accommodation facilities. A context which, according to the judges, attracted the interest of local gangs.
