«The first excavation campaign on the seabed in front of the seaside village of Riace has concluded». This was announced by the Undersecretary of Culture Lucia Borgonzoniwhich explains: «Funded entirely with MiC resources and promoted in order to ascertain the nature of the anomalies found by previous instrumental investigations, the direct verification activities with underwater archaeological excavations conducted last November have not yet revealed any new features of archaeological-cultural interest. The operations were carried out by the staff of the MiC Regional Secretariat for Calabria together with staff from the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of Reggio Calabria and Vibo Valentia with the technical-operational support of the Carabinieri Underwater Unit of Messina. A ‘water sorbent’ and stainless steel sieve were used.”
«We will continue – anticipates the Senator – to explore our seabed in search of new beauty. In fact, other excavation campaigns are planned for 2025. I thank – adds Borgonzoni finally – the peripheral offices of the MiC involved in the campaign for their efforts”.
