The assembly of the FLC CGIL Calabria unanimously elected Alfonso Marcuzzo as the new General Secretary of the category, marking a significant passing of the baton for the regional knowledge union. Marcuzzo succeeds Domenico Denaro, who has reached the end of his mandate, whose dedication, generosity and commitment he wanted to praise, which have guaranteed continuity and passion in a high-profile trade union path. For the new Secretary, taking on this leadership represents a great collective political responsibility, to be exercised with respect and determination in a historical moment that he defines as a true turning point.
The new regional secretariat: an experienced team
Supporting Alfonso Marcuzzo will be a regional secretariat made up of figures with proven experience: Carmen Aiello, Ivan Caroleo, Grace D’Agata and Amelia Rovella. This team will have the task of translating the defense of rights in the school, university, research and higher education sectors into concrete choices in a rapidly and often worryingly changing international and national context.
Defense of work, democracy and criticism of contract renewals
In his keynote speech, Marcuzzo underlined how the defense of work today cannot be separated from the defense of peace, democracy and constitutional values. He expressed strong concern about the reforms that risk emptying the autonomy of the institutions from within and about a political strategy that calls into question acquired rights. On the trade union level, the line of the FLC CGIL Calabria will remain firm on the criticism of the renewal of the national contract, not signed by the category because it is considered devoid of wage equity and incapable of protecting workers from real inflation.
The objectives of the mandate: MSW training and fight against educational poverty
The mandate will focus strongly on the training of RSUs, considered the fundamental pillar of decentralized bargaining and the first safeguard of awareness and strength in the workplace. Calabria is a land that has paid a very high price due to educational poverty and precariousness and must return to being a place of investment and not sacrifice, starting from a close confrontation with the new management of the Regional School Office. The new course of the FLC CGIL Calabria therefore opens under the banner of “we”, with the aim of strengthening the union presence in every territory and in every sector of knowledge, guaranteeing true collegiality practiced every day.
