Forty kilograms of fireworks and explosive material, detained without any authorization, were discovered by the Carabinieri inside a garage in the Pizzinni hamlet of Filandari. The discovery took place yesterday evening, 26 December, during a check carried out by the soldiers of the Operational and Radiomobile Unit of the Carabinieri Company of Vibo Valentia, with the support of the staff of the Carabinieri Station of Francica. The material, considered highly dangerous, was in the possession of a 27-year-old man, resident in Filandari and with no criminal record, who was reported in a state of freedom for illicit possession of explosive and pyrotechnic material.
The fires and fireworks were kept in an unsuitable room, without the necessary safety measures and in the absence of any authorization. The entire quantity was immediately seized. At the disposal of the Judicial Authority, the destruction of the material will be entrusted to the Carabinieri Bomb Squad of the Provincial Command of Catanzaro, also competent for the territory of Vibo Valentia. Further investigations are underway to reconstruct the origin of the 40 kilos of fireworks and clarify the purposes of the detention.
