A detailed and timely operation conducted by the Carabinieri made it possible to recover a luxury car, stolen through a sophisticated scam, and return it to its rightful owner.

The complaint in Pontecorvo

In February, at the offices of the local Carabinieri station, a citizen of Pontecorvo presented a formal complaint for the crimes of fraud and impersonation. The affair originated from the sale of his car, an Audi RS3. The scammer who presented himself with documents that later turned out to be false and fictitious personal details (a self-styled 56-year-old of Campania origins) had completed the purchase by giving the victim a cashier’s check for 62,500 euros. The bitter discovery occurred shortly afterwards, when the credit document turned out to be cleverly cloned and the identity documents completely artificial, confirming the consummation of both the scam and the impersonation. The seller thus found himself without his car and without the agreed upon money. The investigative machinery was activated with immediate effect. The soldiers of the Operational Unit and the Carabinieri Station of Pontecorvo, under the constant direction of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Cassino, have started a complex investigation.

Through the careful analysis of the data, the processing of GPS tracking and the meticulous acquisition and viewing of images from the video surveillance systems located along the main national arteries, the investigators managed to reconstruct the route and map the movements of the vehicle in real time. The car was first located in transit in the territory of Naples, and then continued its route southwards, towards Sicily. The positive outcome of the story was made possible thanks to the widespread network of the Carabinieri throughout the country. Once the vehicle entered Messina was traced, immediate collaboration began with the soldiers of the Messina Radiomobile Unit and the Messina Ganzirri Carabinieri Station, who managed to intercept and recover the Audi A3 before its traces were finally lost. This morning, at the Pontecorvo headquarters, the car was formally returned to its rightful owner.
