From the lists to the designated councilors: the maneuvers of parties and coalitions in Messina

The first real deadline of this electoral campaign has been set for 12pm on Wednesday 29 April. By that day, in fact, the lists of candidates for the municipal council, of the candidates for the district councils and therefore of the candidates for the mayoralty and for the presidency must be deposited at the municipal secretariat. A key step, which will finally offer a clearer picture of the forces on the field. Until that moment, a lot can still happen, both in terms of transitions from one coalition to another – although the “big part” should have already happened – and with movements within the coalitions themselves, with lists that change and recompose.
The fifteen lists presented by South calls North a few weeks ago at the Palacultura, for example, began to change shape the next day. It is not yet excluded that Cateno De Luca could run himself in one of the “under 35” lists, as he already did in 2022. Certainly the party is aiming strongly at five “main” lists, with some margin even for a sixth, the others, as explained several times, will be “testimony”. Or, reading it another way, they will be lists of “disturbance” for the opponents. In the centre-left it seems increasingly likely that in the end there will be two lists left for the city council, that of the Democratic Party and the “mixed” M5S-Controcurrent one, whose symbol was presented in recent days. Today, however, the mayoral candidate Antonella Russo will present two candidates for the district presidency, who should be Santino Cannavò, president of the Uisp, in the fourth and Mariella Valbruzzi, of the No Ponte Capo Peloro Movement, in the sixth. Furthermore, Francesco Carabellò has already been made official for the second.
