From breakdancing to major international competitions: this is the path of the Messina dancer Giovanni Bertuccio, 34 years old originally from Torre Faro, current national locking champion, who on 7 and 8 March will fly to Paris to represent Italy at the Juste Debout finals, one of the most prestigious street dance events in the world.
Juste Debout, born in France about twenty years ago, is today an absolute point of reference in the international panorama of urban dance, capable of bringing together dancers from all over the globe. Arriving on his stage means confronting the world excellence of stand-up dance.
The artist’s journey
He began dancing around the age of 15, initially approaching breakdancing, and then progressively broadening his language by studying stand-up dance styles such as hip hop, popping, locking and house. A journey made of constant study, travel and comparison with masters of national and international fame.
Locking, a discipline he has been practicing for about 16 years, becomes his reference style over time. Fundamental in this journey was the meeting with teachers like Kris and Swan, who contributed not only to his technical growth, but also to his profound understanding of the culture and history of this dance. His recent victory at Juste Debout Italy has opened the doors to the world finals in Paris, where he will compete in pairs together with his partner Cristiana.
It is not the first time he represents Italy abroad, but the Paris event has a particular value: the Juste Debout is considered a real consecration in the world of street dance. An opportunity to bring not only individual talent, but also the identity and quality of the Italian scene to the international stage.
