This morning the Corigliano-Rossano Coordination for Palestine, together with numerous groups from all over Calabria, promoted a solidarity demonstration in front of the Rossano prison to ask for the immediate release of the 24-year-old Palestinian Ahmad Salem. A participatory initiative, which saw the presence of activists, citizens and institutional representatives united by a clear request: the freedom of the young prisoner.
Salem’s institutional visits and health conditions
Today’s initiative follows the visit made in recent days by Mimmo Lucano, who had personally met Salem, bringing him a message of closeness and solidarity. During the garrison, the city councilor Lidia Sciarrotta obtained access to the penitentiary facility for an interview with the inmate. At the end of the meeting, Sciarrotta reassured those present about Ahmad Salem’s health conditions, confirming that the boy is in good physical and mental conditions, despite the context of a complex and difficult prison situation.
The intervention of the activists and the announcement of the Freedom Flotilla
During the demonstration, the activist Vincenzo Fullone intervened and decisively relaunched the request for freedom not only for Salem, but also for other activists affected by the recent repressive measures, citing the cases of Anan, Ali, Mastour and Imam Shahin. The message “We will leave no one behind” forcefully emerged from the square.
Fullone also officially announced a new Freedom Flotilla mission, scheduled to start in May 2026, with the aim of breaking the illegal siege on Gaza, keeping attention high on the genocide in Palestine and attempting to bring humanitarian aid to the civilian population.
The complaint against the repressive climate
The Corigliano-Rossano Coordination for Palestine has firmly denounced: “The growing repressive climate across the country, identifying its origin in the introduction of the Security Bill. A legislation defined as ideological and aimed, according to activists, at criminalizing those who mobilize against poverty and oppression. The first applications of the law would be targeting in a targeted way the movement against the genocide underway in Gaza, protagonist of large and peaceful demonstrations throughout Italy in recent months”.
Finally, the Coordination reiterated that the mobilization will continue unabated until the complete liberation of Ahmad Salem.
