Moments of fear this morning in Viale Emilia, in the southern area of Catanzaro, due to a gas leak from an LPG cylinder on board a van used for catering services.
According to what has been reconstructed, during the journey the cylinder, placed inside the vehicle together with other equipment, would have accidentally overturned, causing the opening of the handwheel and the consequent leakage of the gas. Within a few moments the interior of the van became saturated, forcing the passengers to stop immediately.
Alerted by the strong smell of LPG, the occupants called for help. Precisely at those moments, some Anas operators in transit noticed the dangerous situation and ordered the temporary closure of traffic on both lanes to allow operations in complete safety.
The Fire Brigade of the Catanzaro Provincial Command – headquarters – intervened on site and recovered the cylinders, identified and stopped the leak, making the area safe. Thanks to the use of multi-gas detection instruments, the firefighters monitored the concentration of LPG both inside the vehicle and in the surrounding environment, until safety conditions were completely restored.
Once the checks were completed, the van was able to continue its journey, escorted by the firefighters to its final destination.
The police were also present at the scene of the intervention, while traffic was slowed down until the end of the rescue operations.
