Traffic has been blocked since this afternoon on State Road 114 between Giardini Naxos and Calatabiano. A gas leak triggered by damage to the main pipeline, caused by road works for the laying of telephone fiber near the Alcantara bridge, forced the authorities to close the artery while awaiting the intervention of technicians. The accesses to the bridge have been blocked on both sides and the police, civil protection, firefighters and Italgas technicians are present on site, working to restore the pipeline. State road 114 continues to remain closed for safety reasons in order to protect public and private safety and traffic diverted onto the A18 motorway between the Giardini Naxos and Fiumefreddo junctions. The restoration of circulation is expected in the next few hours.
