The enchanting setting of the thousand colors of Sicilian carts, the characteristic background of popular music and the inevitable scent of freshly processed ricotta. There is the whole history of the community of Gesso which comes together to safeguard and pass on its tradition in the annual Rassegna Popolare Ibbisota – Cannolo Festival and Parade of Sicilian Carts, this year in its 11th edition, scheduled for 16 August from 6pm. In view of the event, Gesso is preparing as every year to welcome citizens and visitors in an evening dedicated to roots, culture and hospitality. The streets of the village will be transformed into a large stage with typically Sicilian colors and flavors, where folklore, art and gastronomy will intertwine. The undisputed protagonist will be the Sicilian cannoli, a symbol of excellence and conviviality, accompanied by the many gastronomic specialties offered in the stands dedicated to the flavors of the territory. The event will offer the opportunity to visit the Church of Sant’Antonio Abate, walk along the Via dell’Arte embellished with the works of the artist Mary Gio Dolcezza, and discover the markets of local artisans, custodians of ancient knowledge and crafts handed down from generation to generation. The festive atmosphere will be opened by the colours, costumes and dances of the folk group “I Cariddi”, who with popular songs and choreographies inspired by the Sicilian tradition will accompany the public on a journey of history and identity, bringing to life the atmosphere of the village festivals which have always represented the beating heart of the island’s culture. Among the most awaited moments, the spectacular parade of Sicilian carts stands out, an authentic symbol of art and memory. Accompanying the procession will be the engaging sounds of “I Suonatori”. Great space will also be dedicated to Sicilian pastries, the pride of regional food and wine. The public will also be able to watch the creation of the Mega Cassata, prepared by the master pastry chefs of Conpait Sicilia. Also on the program are performances by the Fly Dance school, which will involve the public with choreographies that combine tradition and modernity. There will be no shortage of moments dedicated to entertainment and comedy with Denny Napoli’s show. The evening will continue until late with the great live music of the ethnofolk group Le Matrioske.
