«It is not a problem that concerns the current quantity of water supplied by Sorical, which has not yet taken direct management of the municipal water network, but rather it is that of understanding where all the water that does not reach the homes of civilians ends up». Word of the former mayor Aldo Alessio who, once again called into question by the current administration regarding the state of the inherited places on the sites of the wells of contrada Gillècovered by thick vegetation so as to make the pumps unreachable, provides a detailed analysis of the “great thirst” that is gripping the capital of Pianigiano. For the sea captain, “140 l/s are being received from the Petrace wells, double the amount needed by a city of 20,000 inhabitants such as Gioia Tauro.”
So? «The problem, explains Alessio, «is both an excessive consumption of water due above all to waste and improper use that some citizens make». The cause of today’s water reduction, therefore, would not be the Gillè wells, stopped since 2014, nor the lack of cleaning of that area, which «whether done or not done, at this moment has nothing to do with it because the Gillè water has not been introduced into the municipal water network since 2014. Even with my administration we had difficult days with a lack of water, – specifies Alessio – but this happened when there was some technical, electrical, mechanical failure in the lifting pumps that brought us to our knees. Today, fortunately, after all the maintenance that has been done by Sorical in the last two years, at our insistence, the system is working well and therefore it is not a problem of water supply upstream, but of the use that we all make of this precious resource».
