Davide Ballerini wins the sixth stage of the 2026 Giro d’Italia, the 142 kilometer Paestum-Napoli, at the end of a day marked by a fall at the end which compromised the sprinters’ sprint. The Italian rider preceded Jasper Stuyven and Paul Magnier.
Controlled escape, compact group
The stage passed without any particular shocks in the first part. After some initial attempts, Edward Planckaert, Luca Vergallito, Martin Marcellusi, Manuele Tarozzi and Mattia Bais broke away. However, the group always kept the situation under control, finally mending the situation around 35 kilometers from the finish.
Decisive fall at the end
In the final stretch, while the sprinters’ teams were preparing for the sprint, a fall on the cobblestones of Piazza del Plebiscito changed the outcome of the stage. Ballerini took advantage of the situation and found the winning opportunity.
Afonso Eulalio remains in the pink jersey, maintaining the leadership of the general classification.
