They unloaded the magazines of three blank pistols in front of two schools. The State Police officers who then stopped them were amazed when they realized that those four boys, just over eighteen years old, had chosen to celebrate the “100 days” celebration of the State exam with gunshots. A “stunt” that to call such is an understatement. Which cost them a complaint for explosions in a public place.
The theater of the “exploits” of the four was the square in front of the “Filolao” scientific high school on one side and the Ipsia Barlacchi with the commercial technician Lucifero on the other. The four young people – as later reconstructed by police officers from the Police Headquarters – reached the city the day before yesterday from a municipality in the province, aboard a car. Once they arrived in via Acquabona, they took out their guns and fired 22 shots which turned out to be blanks. A real hail of bullets that alarmed residents and students. Then they drove away in their car, trying to cover their tracks while the police officers together with their colleagues from the Flying Squad rushed to the scene. Coordinated directly by the police commissioner Renato Panvino, the police implemented a widespread search device with checks in the areas in front, while the Traffic Police for its part carried out a series of checks along State Road 106 and also along the entry and exit roads of the city.
During the checks, a Flying Squad patrol identified a suspicious car with 4 young people on board. Having blocked the escape routes, the police blocked the vehicle and in the passenger compartment they found a bag belonging to one of the passengers, inside which there was a blank pistol equipped with a magazine with 4 bullets. The owner of the pouch had two more unexploded shells on him. Immediately afterwards, the same Mobile agents together with their colleagues from the Flying Squad who came to support them, searched the bonnet of the car and found and seized two more blank pistols, one with a magazine with 4 bullets and the other with 5 bullets in the magazine. Prosecutor Domenico Guarascio coordinated the investigation activities into the incredible affair which ended with the denunciation of the four student “gunmen”.
