SENSE – Authentic Sila Festival, the cultural project conceived and promoted by MABOS – Art Museum of the Bosco della Sila, a permanent laboratory of creativity and participation, immersed in the woods of the Sila Piccola of Catanzaro, returns for its eighth edition.
Born in 2017 from the vision of Mario Talarico, a local entrepreneur passionate about art, MABOS, recognized in the National Museum System, has given new life to an often peripheral mountain area, transforming it into a place where nature, contemporary art and community dialogue harmoniously.
Here, over the years, SENSE has become an awaited, recognized and participated event, capable of uniting art, culture, territory and social innovation. The project, partly financed by the Calabria Region – Department of Tourism, Territorial Marketing, Local Public Transport and Sustainable Mobility, was made possible by a network of partnerships with public bodies, associations and local businesses, including the Sila National Park Authority, Destinazione Sila, the Kirone APS Association, the Il Barattolo – Ecotronei Association and the Mario Giacomelli Archive.
Strengthening the Calabrian identity, enhancing local resources and contributing to the creation of a sustainable and participatory tourism model: this is the objective of this new edition, scheduled for weekends, from 4 April to 3 May. It will be divided into eight thematic days dedicated to traditions, poetic identity, spirituality, environment, music and migrations. The calendar includes exhibitions, shows, workshops, experiential courses and conferences, offering a multidisciplinary cultural experience.
Among the main events, at the Mabos and the surrounding areas of the Sila National Park: the harmonic song “Rituale” by Biagio Accardi, the concert of one of the main virtuosos of the battente guitar, Alessandro Santacaterina, an excursion between rites and nature by the ethnobotanist Carmine Lupia, a thematic conference on Gioacchino da Fiore, a creative and theatrical writing workshop by the writer Eliana Iorfida and of the actor Francesco Gallelli.
The festival will be sealed on Saturday 3 May by the inauguration of the exhibition “Il Canto dei Nuovi Emigranti” with photographs by Mario Giacomelli, inspired by the poem of the same name by Franco Costabile, and, concurrently, by the opening of the “Spazio Otto”, a multimedia documentation center of photography, literature and territorial memory. “The rattles towards the borders” will also be presented, the docufilm produced by Mabos in collaboration with the Mario Giacomelli Archive.
“The month of April represents the ideal time to experience the Sila in an authentic way, away from the flows of the high season. It is particularly suitable for offering immersive experiences linked to nature, spirituality, music and the discovery of the Calabrian cultural heritage, in non-congested contexts. The objective is to intercept heterogeneous audiences, both local and tourist, to offer profound cultural experiences, immersed in the territory and its identity” comments Talarico, inviting everyone to follow the social channels for details on the SENSE festival, capable of combining art and tradition, beauty and accessibility, memory and future.
