An apparently abandoned van, without insurance and without periodic inspection, turned out to be a drug depot intended, according to investigators, to feed the drug dealing market during the summer nightlife. It is the result of an operation conducted by the State Police in Crotone, which led to the seizure of one kilogram of hashish as part of a broader control activity in the territory.
The intervention is part of the extraordinary services set up by the Police Headquarters to combat drug dealing and strengthen security in the most frequented areas during the summer. The agents of the Flying Squad and the General Prevention and Public Rescue Office are on the field, working in the historic center, on the seafront and near the seaside beaches transformed into nightlife meeting places.
During the checks in the historic center, the police focused their attention on some temporarily uninhabited houses and on the vehicles present nearby. The inspection of the van made it possible to find, carefully hidden inside, a large quantity of hashish, which was immediately seized from unknown persons. According to the elements collected during the investigations, the vehicle would have been used by criminal organizations as a safe deposit to store the narcotic substance before subsequent distribution, probably in the city nightlife areas, frequented mainly by young people. The investigative activity continues under the coordination of the Crotone Public Prosecutor’s Office, led by the prosecutor Domenico Guarascio.
