«Treating and taking care well in Calabria – added Occhiuto – can be done. In Calabria they are extraordinary doctors. The Calabrians must be informed of the episodes of bad health that are still there, in Calabria as in the rest of the country: in Calabria the system works less well than elsewhere because for many years it has not been organized. But the Calabrians must also be informed about excellence, because a substantial part of the passive mobility that we generate depends on the reputation of the health system: the Calabrians who do not trust the health system often go to heal even when they could take care of themselves and good in Calabria. On this – the President of the Region remarked – there is everyone’s responsibility, perhaps there is also a responsibility for information and politics, because precisely on what does not work in healthcare, political positions are often built. In Italy and also in Calabria what does not work in healthcare has certainly more echo than good news. But I don’t lose heart, I keep working. I am satisfied with the fact that Calabria in the last year is the region that has increased the Lea score more, showing that in Calabria there can be many things never done in the past. But there is still a lot to do, because the Calabrian health system is not yet worthy of a civilized country ».
As for the possibility of an exit of the Calabrian health commissioner, hoped for in recent weeks, Occhiuto said: “There is the availability of the government, the President of the Council, the Minister of Economy, even the Technical Tables.
