It was supposed to be the day of the agreement on the new articles to be included in the basic text of the Budget. But Renato Schifani also extracted a pact from all his allies to change the system for appointing managers of ASP and hospitals. A move that aims to give a political response to yet another scandal, the result of the investigation which risks sending 18 leading figures from the regional galaxy to arrest, including Totò Cuffaro, the group leader of the DC Carmelo Pace and the two managers Alessandro Caltagirone and Roberto Colletti.
However, the new system raises more than one doubt in the Etna wing of the Brothers of Italy which revolves around the former councilor Ruggero Razza and the former president Nello Musumeci.
Generally speaking, the appointments will go through a selection process – explained Schifani – for each of the 9 ASPs and for each of the other 9 major hospitals. Therefore there will be 18 calls and competitions based on qualifications and interviews which will be entrusted to an independent commission made up of three members: the first chosen by the Region, the second by Agenas and the last by the conference of Sicilian rectors.
