High speed “outside” the Pnrr? The M5S: “Calabria penalized”

The Calabrian elected representatives of the 5 Star Movement do not like the high-speed railway “leaving” the Pnrr. The news published yesterday by this newspaper about the risk of a cut in the work – as part of the new revision of the Plan being examined by the national government – because it is behind the June 2026 deadline has generated transversal discontent. Among the most “fierce” there are certainly the five-star representatives. «The news of the imminent revision of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (Pnrr) – write the M5S representatives -, with the real risk of diverting funds intended for the high-speed railway in Calabria towards other works, represents a very hard blow for the future of the region. Yet another broken promise – they add – yet another sign of Calabria being considered at the rear, expendable on the altar of political logics that appear increasingly distant from the real needs of the territory.

We learn with dismay that, while the sixth installment of the Pnrr (8.7 billion) has just arrived from Brussels, the national government, with the approval of the regional government, is already working on a new modification of the Plan, citing “objective circumstances” which would prevent the realization of some projects by 2026. These include the Calabrian lots of the Salerno-Reggio Calabria high speed line, those where the accumulated delays are the most significant.”
