«The failure to include the regions of Southern Italy, and in particular Calabria, in the new high-speed infrastructural scheme prepared by the European Union is a very serious fact and we will protest about this in all offices».
This was stated by MEP Pasquale Tridico, already candidate for the presidency of the Region for the progressive camp, commenting on Brussels’ recent decision.

Tridico recalled that the Five Star Movement has already presented a question to the European Commission to ask for clarification, underlining that the failure to provide for the southern sections violates “Article 170 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union”, which establishes the principle of territorial cohesion.

The MEP then made an appeal to the Italian government and the Calabria Region, both led by the centre-right, to “strongly protest” and ask for explanations regarding a choice defined as “shameful, which distances the South from development and a transport network that is fundamental for the future of our region”.
