“History, ordering and enhancement of cultural heritage in Sicily” at the University of Messina

For the academic year 2025-2026 will start The University of Messina The first II level Master in “History, ordering and enhancement of cultural heritage in Sicily”, promoted by the Department of Law, conceived by the art historian Dr. Silvia Mazza, under the scientific direction of prof. Franco Astone, professor of administrative law.
“The scope on which it was chosen to intervene with the project – explains Prof. Astone – is that of the high training aimed at creating professional figures capable of using and developing the plurality of tools and techniques for the protection and enhancement of cultural heritage, with particular regard to the cultural and immaterial heritage of the Sicilian Region”.

“The Master – declares Dr. Mazza, also a member of the scientific and expert committee of cultural heritage of the Region – presents itself as a Unicum in the framework of the academic training proposals, intended to provide adequate knowledge of specific history, the organization and functioning of the Department of Cultural Heritage and Sicilian identity, with particular regard to the Sicilian regional discipline in the wider framework of the sector and state legislation”.

The training project in question is part of the development program of the Department of Law, directed by prof. Alessio Lo GiudiceFounding of Philosophy of Law, selected from the university departments of Excellence for the five-year period 2023-2027. It constitutes a general objective of the program that of identifying innovative legal models which, taking into account the peculiar current configuration of new assets (environmental, cultural, digital and bio-economic assets) and of current legal regimes, allow to propose the overcoming of inequalities in access to utility that contribute to the full development of the human person in the 21st century, in a perspective of use inspired by the principles of sustainability and social justice.

For the occasion, the memorandum of understanding between the Department and the University for the conduct of internships and internships at the institutes of the Department of Cultural Heritage was renewed.
In this regard, he declares the Councilor for Cultural Heritage and Sicilian identity Francesco Paolo Scarpinato: “I greeted with immediate appreciation and sharing the proposal of this master who has the merit of enhancing the founding principles of a real” Sicilian model “of governance and management of cultural heritage and immaterial legacy. An important opportunity to make known the specific approach adopted by Sicily in the protection, enhancement and use of cultural heritage”.

The call for students, who can also attend online mode, will be published within the first half of July. The Master will be officially presented at the University of Messina on 29 September by prof. Salvatore SettisAcademician of the Lincei, president of the Louvre scientific council, and by prof. Lorenzo Casini, Rector and Professor of Administrative Law in the IMT School High Legal Studies Lucca.
