The workers of trade and modern organized distribution in Calabria will cross their arms on the main holidays: Easter and Easter Monday (5 and 6 April), 25 April, 1 May and 2 June.

The joint strike was proclaimed by Filcams Cgil, Fisascat Cisl and Uiltucs Uil, who once again point the finger at “the negative effects of the total liberalization of business hours”. «In recent years – the trade union organizations declare – a model without rules has established itself, which has extended openings up to 365 days a year, with increasingly heavier shifts and an imposed flexibility that has worsened working conditions without bringing either better wages or new stable employment».

At the center of the mobilization is, above all, the theme of work-life balance «strongly compromised by an organization that forces more and more workers to provide service even on public holidays. The holidays – continue Filcams, Fisascat and Uiltucs – must return to being a time of rest, relationships and life. It is not acceptable that competition between companies is placed entirely on the shoulders of those who work.” The strike in Calabria is part of a broader dispute at national level. The three federations have in fact recently written to the Productive Activities commission of the Chamber of Deputies to ask for urgent scheduling of the legislative proposals on the regulation of opening hours and holidays. “Territorial mobilization is also a tool to support the initiative of the national secretariats – underline the unions – to reopen a parliamentary debate and definitively overcome the total liberalization of Sunday and public holiday openings”.
