An Iranian attack on a base in Saudi Arabia injured at least 12 American soldiers, two of them seriously. The US media reported it. Iran has continued retaliatory attacks against Gulf nations, which it accuses of serving as a launching pad for US attacks on the country, which began in a joint operation with Israel on February 28. The attack on Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia involved at least one missile and several drones, the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal reported, citing unidentified sources.
The soldiers were inside a building on the base at the time of the attack, the Wall Street Journal reported. Several in-flight refueling planes were also reported to have suffered damage in the attack. Saudi Arabia had already intercepted several missiles launched near the base in the past. Thirteen US service members have been killed since the conflict with Iran began, seven in the Gulf and six in Iraq. Over 300 were injured. The Iranian government has not released an updated death toll, but a U.S.-based activist group said March 23 that some 1,167 Iranian soldiers had been killed and that the fate of 658 others was unknown.
