«The choice is entirely Basile’s: mayor of the people of Messina or a “reflection” of its leader?». The provocative thrust comes, in the middle of a Sunday in October, from the provincial secretary of the Democratic Party, Armando Hyerace. And it arrives at a key moment – yet another, it must be said, and certainly not the last – for the administration of Federico Basile and the political path of Cateno De Luca. And the point seems to be precisely this: the symbiosis between the two areas – the administrative one of the Municipality of Messina and the political one of the leader of South Calls North – is total and nothing has changed, from this point of view, with the passage of the tricolor band from De Luca to Basile. A “hereditary” transition, which certainly concerned the keys to the administrative machine – albeit shared with a very faithful historian of De Luca, such as Salvo Puccio, Basile’s inseparable sidekick -, but not those of the political management of Palazzo Zanca, from the team of councilors to the appointments in the investee companies.
Here, control has always been in the hands of De Luca, even when the latter tried to make people believe that he would stop playing the role of political leader, and despite the growth path undertaken by Basile in recent years, also in relations with other political groups.
