It could have ended in tragedy, it ended with a suspended sentence and a dismissal. The protagonist of the evening of madness in Schiavonea, a hamlet of Corigliano-Rossano, is a 30-year-old foreign citizen, illegal on the national territory, who on Saturday 21 March transformed the car park of a supermarket into a battlefield.
It all begins with a theft of alcohol in the aisles of the business. The man, discovered by the security, returns the stolen goods and leaves, benefiting from the leniency of the owners who decide not to press charges. But the truce does not last long. Shortly after, the thirty-year-old returns to the “scene of the crime” in a harassing manner, forcing those present to call 112. Upon their arrival, the officers from the Corigliano-Rossano police station found themselves faced with a man in a total state of fury. To requests for identification, the subject first responded with the classic repertoire of threats – “I’ll kill you, go away” – then he moved on to action, throwing a concrete boulder picked up on the ground at the police. A stone thrown violently which hit one of the operators in the hand.
Despite the spitting and promises to “cut the throats” of the officers, the man was barely contained and taken to the office for photo-tagging, which confirmed his irregularity in Italy. The file quickly ended up on the table of the Castrovillari Prosecutor’s Office. Yesterday, March 23, the direct trial was held: the Court validated the arrest, applying a sentence of one year and eight months of imprisonment.
