Until 2080 the population in Italy will continue to decline and age. From 58.9 million residents on 1 January 2025, it will rise to 55 million in 2050. In 2080, however, 45.8 million are expected: over 13 million less than today. This is what emerges from the report released today by Istat. Furthermore, the number of couples with children is destined to decrease until it falls below those without children: from the current 7.5 million, 28.1% of the total, it will go to 5.8 million in 2050, when they will represent just 21.1% of families. Couples without children, on the other hand, are increasing: from 5.4 million in 2025 to 5.9 million in 2050 (+8.8%). The incidence on the total rises to 21.4%.
