The outcome of the polls decreed the election of Giacomo Lupò, student of the “Emilio Ainis” high school in Messina and former president of the CPS Messina, which obtained six preferences out of nine. With this victory, Lupò becomes the highest representative office of Sicilian studentsmarking a historic result for the municipality of Messina, whose candidate holds this prestigious position for the first time. “I am deeply honored by this role – declared Giacomo Lupò – which entrusts me with the responsibility of representing the voice of all Sicilian students at a regional and national level. This achievement is the result of the work and trust that my colleagues have placed in me, sharing a common vision and supporting my candidacy.”
The newly elected Coordinator then outlined the guidelines of his mandate, highlighting the importance of a cohesive and incisive Coordination, capable of tackling the main challenges of the Sicilian school world. “My goal is to re-establish a strong and unitary identity of the Regional Coordination, placing the protection of student well-being at the centre. It will be a priority to open a constructive dialogue with the institutions to resolve historical critical issues, such as the infrastructural deficiencies of schools and problems related to transport. At the same time, I want to promote a network to raise awareness on fundamental issues for adolescents, such as school disadvantage, mental health and social awareness.”
A message of closeness to the students
“From today I want to say to the students I represent that I will never leave them alone. I will work to make school a better, more inclusive and welcoming place. I firmly believe that the Regional Coordination of the Sicilian Councils has the potential to become an exemplary model of student representation also at a national level”.
