The era of the administration led by mayor Giacomo Perrotta ends in Scalea. Yesterday morning, nine city councilors tendered their resignations, registering them around 8.30. Among the signatories, also the former deputy mayor Annalisa Alfano – who resigned from office during the last municipal council, during which she had voted against the motion of no confidence presented by seven minority councilors – and the former majority group leader, she also resigned from this position recently, following the mayor’s decision to join Forza Italia. Exactly as before her and with the same motivation, the president of the assembly, Gaetano Bruno, resigned. Therefore, the nine resigning councilors are Giuseppe Angona, Raffaele D’Anna, Eugenio Orrico, Angelo Paravati, Francesco Silvestri, Giuseppe Antonio Torrano (who personally deposited the document drawn up by the notary with the signatures of the nine councilors at the Protocol Office of the Municipality resigned), Giovanna Versace, Gianna Fiore and Annalisa Alfano. The municipal council was therefore dissolved. The prefect has already appointed the commissioner: Giuseppe Di Martino.
«It was an honor to serve my country – declared the now former mayor Giacomo Perrotta – Traitors are and will remain so forever. Very soon, with a clear head, I will do a live broadcast in which we will analyze the situation by calling things by name and surname. See you soon and thanks again to everyone.”
Also for Scalea, therefore, as has already happened for Cetraro in recent days, comes the commissioner’s management of the municipal body, until the next elections. The political climate appears to be characterized by divisions and resentments, giving a glimpse of a very tough electoral campaign, given that, especially in this last part of the council, a series of tears and defections from the majority have taken place which cannot fail to affect the political future of the city . Yesterday’s resignations of the nine Scalao councilors were not, in fact, “a bolt from the blue”, considering that already in recent months and, above all, in the last council sessions there have been shocks that have put the stability of the council to the test. . Last but not least, the motion of no confidence presented by seven minority councillors, then also voted by the former majority leader, Gianna Fiore, did not pass thanks to the exit from the chamber of the former president of the civic assembly Gaetano Bruno and the vote against deputy mayor Annalisa Alfano, who, however, resigned from her position in the same session, also leaving her duties as councilor. Gaetano Bruno, after having learned of Mayor Perrotta’s decision to join Forza Italia, had not, in fact, believed that he could still be part of the council majority, “given – he explained – the marked centre-right political extraction”. Therefore, the vote on the motion of no confidence in the mayor, even if rejected, revealed a serious political conflict, which caused the loss of a solid council majority, resulting in a situation of impossibility for the municipal council to function, given that by now the Mayor Perrotta could only count on the support of seven out of sixteen councilors. An insufficient number to be able to continue its administrative action. A situation culminating in the resignation of the aforementioned nine councilors, after months of political and administrative instability.
Exactly as already happened in Cetraro, where, after the end of the council led by the mayor Ermanno Cennamo – also decreed in this case by the resignation of nine councilors, including the former deputy mayor Tommaso Cesareo – the prefectural commissioner has already been appointed, in the person of the retired former vice-prefect Mauro Passerotti. A commissionership which, in both cases, should, however, last only a few months, with a return to the polls for both the Cetrara and Scala community already looming next spring. A common destiny for the two Tyrrhenian towns, which will hopefully herald the end – for both – of a long and troubled period of local politics.
