A new goal in the fight against breast cancer was reached by the radiotherapy structure of the Taormina hospital, which introduced the technique of Breath Hold (detention of breath) for the treatment of left breast cancer. The adoption of this advanced technology has been made possible thanks to the installation of two new linear accelerators for therapy, which place the most avant -garde department in the field of oncological radiotherapy.
The technique of Breath Holdused in cases of left breast neoplasmallows you to significantly reduce the exposure of the heart to radiation, improving the effectiveness of the treatment and reducing the risks of long -term side effects. The method provides for the active collaboration of the patient, who holds a deep breath during the administration of the radiotherapy beam, thus removing the heart from the irradiated area. This allows greater precision and safety in treatment.
The project was carried out with the support of the Oncological Department and the Strategic Management of the ASP of Messina, which have invested in training, technology and skills to guarantee increasingly personalized and safe treatments.
“We are happy to offer our patients a technique aligned with higher international standards,” said the director of the radiotherapy structure, Angelo Di Pietro. “The professionalism of our staff, combined with the use of modern technologies, allows us to take care of people carefully, empathy and quality.”
The manager of health physics, Nando Romeo, underlined the importance of collaboration Among the different professional figures involved: “The implementation of the Breath Hold It is the result of a synergistic and integrated work between doctors, physicists, technicians and nurses. Thanks to an accurate dosimetric planning and continuous monitoring during the session, we are able to guarantee maximum precision in the treatment and the best safeguarding of the healthy organs, in particular the heart. “
Even the health management of the Asp Messina, composed of the general manager Giuseppe Cuccì, the administrative director Giancarlo Niutta and the health director Giuseppe Ranieri Trimarchi, expressed satisfaction for the finish line achieved: “This milestone represents not only a step forward for our structure, but a constant commitment towards improving the quality of the care. We are proud to be able to guarantee avant -garde technologies, with a look always attentive to the needs of our patients. and continues to be to offer a health service of excellence in the area. “
Taormina’s radiotherapy is thus confirmed as a point of reference in the healthcare landscape, showing that even in territorial contexts it is possible to do high -level medicine, with the patient care in the center.
