Inclusion and sport in Messina: Volleyball Week stops at Verona Trento: today a meeting between disabled and able-bodied people

By John

The VIII edition of the “Volleyball Week”, promoted by Special Olympics Italia and sponsored by Federvolley, Lega Pallavolo Serie A and Lega Volley Femminile, which is held throughout Italy from 4 to 11 February 2024, stops in Sicily at the IIS Verona Trento today 7 February as scheduled in the national calendar. The Messina Institute has always encouraged and promoted change towards a more inclusive school community and for this reason it decided to organize a volleyball match in a unified formula, involving mixed teams of athletes with and without disabilities. It is the most immediate way to make people understand values such as inclusion and friendship and to train, play and have fun together.

The Institute recently also requested and obtained accreditation as a ‘Competitive School Team’: it should be noted that there are only two schools in Sicily that have such a requirement. This prerogative will allow Verona Trento students to be fully involved in participating in promotional activities, like today’s, and in the future it will allow participation in official competitive competitions for one or more sports disciplines. The arrival point of sporting involvement will be the great step of the School Team towards the organization of initiatives that involve our territory.

A round table on the topic will also take place tomorrow in the Aula Magna starting at 9.15am.
