A theft of oncological drugs, for an estimated value of over 300 thousand euros, was carried out at the night between 4 and 5 June in the deposit of the territorial pharmacy of the ASP District of Cirò Marina. The thieves introduced themselves inside the Poliambulatorio in via Togliatti by forcing a cutter door and, after reaching the pharmacy located on the ground floor, broke the wardrobe in which the medicines were kept. The alarm was given the supervisory staff who took service at 7 in the morning. No other medicine or instrumentation has been taken. The carabinieri of the Cirò Marina company, alerted immediately, carried out reliefs on the spot and are analyzing the videos of the video surveillance cameras in the area. To quantify the damage, several hours were needed in order to verify the type of drug stolen.
The theft is part of a growing phenomenon at national level: stolen oncological drugs are often illegally resold through the dark web, through intermediaries linked to organized crime. It is the first case of this type in the province of Crotone, while a similar episode had occurred last January at the hospital in Cetraro, in Calabria.
