This is the second time that the Polish city hosts this competition, the European Masters Indoor Athletics Championships. After the 2023 World Championships event, Torun is now a consolidated venue for international events, and this year 3,438 participants are taking part, including 177 Italians. The indoor competitions are taking place in the modern Torun Arena and a few hours ago the blue Edoardo Alfieri bearer of the ASD Youth sports center in the Lido district of Catanzaro gave Italy its first gold medal and consequent European title in the 3000 m Marcia Walk M65 race. Right from the start the Calabrian athlete started in the lead and with the experience of the silver in the 3000 m indoors he wanted to put the cards straight and as a champion who has won multiple world titles with European and world titles he put all the athletes to the test try going on to win the race with a modest time of 15 minutes and 54 seconds. The leading man of the Italian national team stimulated the other blue player Giuseppe Iala who wins silver. Nothing to do for the Lithuanian Urbikas Aloyzas who had to climb to the lowest step of the podium. Well done to the other blue one Claudio Penolazzi which comes in fourth place. The only disappointment is that there is no team medal on this distance. The 5000 m race walk on Friday 22 March could be a wonderful opportunity. Great satisfaction in the circles of the club by the sea, the Asd Youth Sports Center of the Lido district of Catanzaro and in Fidal Calabria for this umpteenth title and performance by Alfieri.
